Featured Caribbean pork and chicken fare comes bathed in secret spicy jerk sauce, while fresh-baked side dishes are paired with fresh-squeezed sugar cane juice and coconut water. Seaside is a casual, family-friendly outdoor eatery serving shareable Italian dishes. Calabash offers a contemporary Caribbean menu with blended with creole and Latin flavors.
Coconut Bay Resort itself has no less than nine restaurants offering everything from casual beachside to top-end fine dining. There are seven bars and enough choice to keep things interesting during your stay. (If you are on a premium all-inclusive package at the resort then all drinks, including top-shelf liquors, are part of the deal).
The resort is located two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean on the Intracoastal Waterway in the heart of the Florida Gold Coast. Shopping and tourist attractions are nearby, as well as tennis and sailing. Vacationers may swim at the beach or in the resort's pool. An outdoor whirlpool spa and a marina are also on-site.
Having been familiar with the barren area of Coconut Bay that Serenity has been built on we were delighted to see that the whole complex has been beautifully landscaped and once you enter Serenity it is like entering a completely separate and individual resort.
As much as we would like to have stayed entirely at Serenity as there is only one restaurant we felt the need to venture over to the Coconut Bay resort to use their restaurants. While they are not bad, they are not near the same standard as Serenity and this is the one slight criticism I have in relation to the dining options, or lack of. Perhaps an alternating menu in the Great House would increase the food choice in the single venue. Having first stayed at Coconut Bay four years ago I was amused to see that the menu in Calabash restaurant was virtually the same. That said, I had the most beautiful fillet steak, which unlike the dreaded BA fillet was incredibly tender and flavoursome.
We tried the special on our last evening which was a beautiful steak, cooked to perfection and served with delicious mashed potato, vegetables, onion rings and salad. We could have easily shared one plate and still been incredibly full. Of course, we persevered and managed to eat quite a bit of it! This was all washed down with a bottle (or two!) of delightful merlot chosen from an extensive wine list. Being aware now of the full dining options available at The Great House I would happily eat there every night. It is hard to remember that this is an all-inclusive resort restaurant when the food is consistently better than several high-end restaurants that I have been fortunate to have visited.
We spent one night and half day here last October, courtesy of BA (first) after our flight was delayed 24hours. We were impressed by the attention and quality. The main resort is pretty grim, the rest of the flight were accommodated there. The food was good, the villa was excellent and the whole place very neat and tidy. But a bit soulless. Not sure we would want a whole holiday here.
Coconut Bay Resort offers simple, independent living for your Florida holiday. Take a short walk to the beach, where you can enjoy sunning yourself, relaxing in the on-site, heated pool and hot tub, or enjoy casual dining at the poolside grills. The nearest airport is Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, 5 miles away. From the airport, take US1 North to Sunrise Blvd.(U.S. 1 North turns into Sunrise for about a quarter of a mile) Go east on Sunrise. Follow signs to the Beach. Go over the Intracoastal Drawbridge. The first stop light after the drawbridge is Birch Road, turn right. Coconut Bay is next door to the 7-11 on the corner. The office is open until 7pm on Saturday and from 9am to 1pm. on Sunday. If arriving outside of these hours, you must contact the resort in advance or you will be un- able to check-in until the next business day and will need to secure your own accomodations.
